Linen Waistcoat | Revolutionary War

  • A waistcoat was an everyday clothing item for men during the American Revolution, worn across class lines and in both civilian and military contexts. It was considered a foundational layer of dress—just as important as a shirt or breeches-and no man would be properly dressed without one. Beyond being a style staple, the waistcoat served practical purposes, offering warmth, modesty, and storage.

This particular cut is modeled after common mid-to-late 18th-century styles.
It sits right at the natural waist, with vents at the back and sides that add both comfort and visual interest. Our waistcoat includes working pockets—an often-overlooked but historically accurate detail.

This style is suitable for impressions from the 1770s through the 1780s.
