L'École de Vénus, ou The Ladies Delight, a été initialement publiée en 1680 sous forme d'érotisme, accompagné d'illustrations. Ce livre est une lecture simple mais pour adultes, et pas pour ceux qui sont facilement offensés par le langage.
À bien des égards, c’est bien plus qu’un « livre sale » et une lecture amusante. Écrit comme une conversation entre deux femmes ; la fidélité, le mariage, les normes de beauté et les attentes sociales sont tous abordés à différents moments.
Un éminent amiral et parlementaire de l'époque, Samuel Pepys a écrit à propos de ce livre dans son journal. Entre autres choses, il a déclaré: "Ce n'était pas mal pour un homme sobre de relire une fois pour s'informer sur la méchanceté du monde... cela a forcé ma connard à se tenir debout pendant tout ce temps."

Jessie D. Enlightening
This book sheds light onto the social and religious norms of the 17th century. It is enlightening to any historian who wants a view of social and cultural norms of the times, as well as what was acceptably discussed by gentle ladies. It should be noted that this book has not been rewritten from the original source, rather simply translated from French to English, so as not to lose the original intent of the written word.
